A supportive (also co-operative; often referred to as a co-op) is a business business owned and operated by a group of people for their shared benefit. Cooperatives are described by the Worldwide Co-operative Alliance's Statement on the Co-operative Personality as autonomous associations of persons united voluntarily to satisfy their prevalent economic, social, and ethnic needs and aspirations through jointly owned or operated and democratically controlled corporations. A cooperative may also be understood to be a business owned or operated and handled equally by people who make use of its providers or by people who function there. Supportive enterprises would be the focus of analyze in the field of supportive economics.

A cooperative is known as a legal enterprise owned and democratically managed by it is members. Members often have a close association with the enterprise as producers or perhaps consumers of its products or services, or perhaps as its employees. Cooperatives might take the form of companies restricted to shares or by assure, partnerships or perhaps unincorporated interactions.

History

Cooperative efforts have occurred throughout history.
